Your bottom defines performance. Pick wrong and you’ll feel it every trip. Here’s the breakdown:
-
Flat Bottom: Runs where others can’t. Ultra shallow, mud flats, thick vegetation.
-
8º Razor: The sweet spot for agility and stability. Built for flooded timber.
-
12º Villain: Sharper V and nose. Cuts chop, corners harder, runs in 8 to 10 inches.
-
Bay (Padded) Hull: Bigger water, drier ride. Stable in larger water, shallow at rest.
-
Prop Tunnel: Raise the prop, run skinny. Perfect for marshes and rivers.
-
Jet Tunnel: Rocks, shoals, rivers. Run confidently where props don’t.
To properly answer, you need to consider the type of activities you'll be primarily engaging in, as well as the typical water conditions you'll encounter. If you'll be navigating shallow waters, a flat bottom or modified V-hull may be more suitable. For fishing or rough water conditions, a deep-V hull would be preferable. Additionally, consider factors like speed, maneuverability, stability, and the number of passengers you'll be carrying to strike a balance between performance needs and personal preferences.
Flat Bottom
Precision-crafted for those running in extremely shallow waters, our most popular choice for hunters and anglers. Effortlessly glide over mud flats, submerged vegetation, and other shallow water situations to reach those hard-to-reach fishing spots with ease. Specifically designed to be used with Surface Drive or Mud Motors and can be ran in less than 6 inches of water.
8º Razor
A masterful blend of stability and maneuverability. The angle of the V-shaped hull enhances cutting through waves and choppy waters, providing a smoother ride. Additionally, this design allows for precise handling and improved cornering, giving you greater control and agility on the water. Our most popular choice for folks running flooded timber where you need to run shallow and turn on a dime. Designed to be used with Mud Motors and Outboards alike and can be ran in 6-8 inches of water. Can be ordered with Crimps, Inverted Crimps or without Crimps, tailored to the specific requirements of the owner.
12º Villain
Crafted for optimal performance and versatility. Characterized by its 12-degree V-shaped bottom, sharper nose and arched gunnels, this hull design offers heightened sharpness and agility, allowing for effortless navigation through waves and choppy waters. The increased angle of the V-shaped hull enhances cutting ability, cornering capabilities and gives you the freedom to navigate various water conditions with ease and reliability. Specifically designed to be used with Outboard Motors and can be ran in 8-10 inches of water. Can be ordered with or without Crimps, tailored to the specific requirements of the owner.
Bay (Padded) Hull
The top choice for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking peak performance in larger water environments. Featuring a 15-degree deadrise angle, it provides exceptional stability, maneuverability, and dryness even in choppy conditions. The V-shaped bottom smoothly transitions to a flatter (padded) section towards the stern, enhancing stability at rest and allowing for shallow draft. Specifically designed for high-output, high horse-power outboard motors, excelling in larger bodies of water all the way down to approximately 1 foot of water.
Prop Tunnel
Designed for those seeking extreme shallow-water capabilities with an outboard motor. Our integrated prop tunnel elevates your boat's performance by minimizing draft and allowing the propeller to sit higher within the water, thereby reducing the risk of grounding in shallow areas. Additionally, our prop tunnels enhance performance by providing a more direct flow of water to the propeller, improving efficiency and maneuverability. This is a great choice for someone who enjoys exploring marshes, flats, or rivers with variable water depths as low as 6 inches.
Jet Tunnel
Navigate with confidence through shallow, rocky bottoms in our agile jet tunnel. Where propeller-driven boats may be impractical, our jet tunnel provides unparalleled maneuverability and peace of mind, ensuring you can explore even the most challenging waterways with ease and precision in less than 6" of water.
No crimps: Smoothest ride and best speed.
-
Crimps: Stability and control in chop.
-
Inverted crimps: Extra lift, sharper turns, great for timber.
Designed for our Razor or Villain hulls, the choice between crimped, non-crimped, or inverted crimped bottoms ultimately depends on your personal preferences and the intended use of your Prodigy. Each option offers unique advantages, catering to different preferences and boating needs.
For those seeking versatility across various water conditions, including both shallow and deeper waters, non-crimped bottom hulls provide the ideal solution. Offering a smoother ride and increased speed, these hulls are suitable for a wide range of activities, from recreational boating to fishing in calm and moderately rough waters.
Individuals prioritizing stability and maneuverability in rough waters often prefer traditional crimped hulls. Ideal for navigating unpredictable conditions like inland waters or choppy lakes, crimped hulls offer reliability and control. However, they may not be suitable for navigating shallower waters due to the risk of getting caught or hung up on obstacles.
For agility and performance in shallow waters, such as navigating marshes or flats, hulls with inverted crimps are the preferred choice. Enhancing hydrodynamics by creating lift and reducing surface friction, inverted crimps enable quick planing, higher speeds, and turns on a time. This option is popular among anglers navigating flooded timber, where the ability to run shallow and turn sharply is essential.
Absolutely. Every Prodigy can be wired turnkey with GPS, trolling motors, electronics, and custom accessories. If you can dream it, we can build it.
Prodigy builds boats from 15 to 26 feet with multiple width options. You pick the layout that fits how you run, tiller, center console, side console, forward console, or mini side console. Every rig is built around your style of boating, not a cookie-cutter mold.
Prodigy gives you the freedom to run the way you want. Choose a mud motor for shallow, muddy environments, a high-output outboard for speed and versatility, or an outboard jet for rocky, ultra-shallow rivers.
Every Prodigy is built from 5086 aluminum, the industry benchmark for strength and corrosion resistance. Standard builds use .125” (1/8”) plating, with the option for a .190” (3/16”) bottom when you want maximum durability.
No two boaters run the same way. Do you need to push shallow in mud and grass, cut hard corners in timber, or stay dry and stable in big water? Tell us where you run and how you run, and we’ll guide you to the bottom, layout, and motor that make the most sense. Our goal is simple: a Prodigy that feels built for you from day one.
We stand behind our craftsmanship. Every Prodigy comes with a Lifetime Warranty on original welds and structural components valid for the lifetime of the original owner. (Reyno models excluded.)
The Lifetime Warranty is exclusive to the original owner. As a bonus, the warranty can transfer once to a second owner and remains valid for up to three years from the original manufacturer date.
Misuse, neglect, normal wear and tear, environmental damage, and unauthorized modifications are not covered. Engines, trailers, and third-party components are covered by their own manufacturers.
For the original owner, coverage lasts a lifetime on welds and structural components. For a second owner, coverage extends up to three years from the original manufacturer date.
Saltwater use requires extra care. Boats must be rinsed thoroughly, flushed, and properly maintained after every trip. Corrosion or damage caused by neglecting saltwater care is not covered.
Saltwater Usage Guidelines for Prodigy Hulls and Motors
Prodigy Hulls:
- • Prodigy hulls can be used in saltwater.
- • After each use in saltwater, rinse the hull and all components thoroughly with freshwater.
- • Periodically check all electrical connections for corrosion.
- • Prodigy Boats is not responsible for damage caused by saltwater exposure.
Outboard Motors:
- • Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for maintenance and care.
Mud Motor Engines:
- • Mud motor engines are not designed for saltwater use. If you must use them in saltwater, please follow these guidelines:
- • Flush the exterior of the motor and drive thoroughly with freshwater after every use.
- • After exiting saltwater, run the engine at idle and slowly inject a water flow into the flywheel to wash off coils and wires under the engine cowl.
- • If your boat is moored in water, tilt the outboard so the gear case is completely out of the water (except in freezing temperatures) when not in use.
- • Add a corrosion control anode to the boat side of the skeg. Any small configuration will work.
- • Monthly, spray Mercury Precision Lubricants or Quicksilver Marine Lubricants Corrosion Guard on external metal surfaces and all exposed wire connections and harnesses. (Do not spray on corrosion control anodes as this will reduce their effectiveness.)
- • When power-washing the mud motor, avoid spraying high pressure into wire harnesses or near oil seal areas.
- • Sand and refinish any paint chips to prevent corrosion.
By following these guidelines, you can help protect your Prodigy hull and motor from the harsh effects of saltwater.
